It’s no secret around here—we love lavender. This hardy, fragrant beauty has been a part of natural medicine cabinets and country gardens for centuries, and with good reason. Whether you’re using it to soothe the senses, flavor your food, or freshen up your drawers, lavender is one of nature’s most versatile little wonders. Every summer, we look forward to lavender harvest season like an old friend coming to visit. It's calming just to be near it—and even better when you bring it into your home in beautiful, simple ways. 🌿 Why We Love Lavender Calming scent: The essential oils in lavender are known to reduce stress, anxiety, and even help with sleep. Natural antiseptic: Lavender has gentle antibacterial and antifungal properties, which makes it perfect for salves, sprays, and oils. Great for skin: A few drops of lavender oil in a carrier like olive or almond oil can help soothe irritated skin, bug bites, or sunburn. Soothes the nervous system: Whether it’s in a cup of tea or a sachet on your pillow, lavender is a friend to the nervous system and helps promote deep rest. |
🌸 How We Use Lavender Around the Farm Here are some of our favorite (and easiest) ways to bring lavender into our everyday routines: Simple sachets – Dried lavender blossoms tucked into small cloth bags make the perfect natural drawer freshener. You can also hang one near your bed for a gentle scent at night. (Bonus: They help keep moths away, too!) Lavender-infused olive oil – This is a dream for soothing skin or even for cooking. We steep dried lavender buds in extra virgin olive oil for a few weeks, then strain it into a dark bottle. It's great on roasted veggies or even drizzled over goat cheese. Lavender salt – Crush dried lavender with sea salt and use it as a seasoning for lamb or chicken. The floral notes pair beautifully with savory dishes. It’s a little fancy, a lot delicious, and surprisingly easy to make. ⏳ Lavender Harvest Season Here’s a fun little farm fact: lavender is actually harvested before the flowers fully bloom. That’s when the essential oils are most potent and the scent is strongest. We usually harvest ours in early summer, hang it in bundles to dry, and use it throughout the year in teas, tinctures, oils, and crafts. We’ll have some fresh lavender bundles and goodies available soon, both online and at the farm stand. And yes—we’ve been taking lots of photos to share how we use lavender around the homestead! Lavender Glycerite is also in the works for this year. It will be available sometime in August in a small batch. Lavender glycerite offers benefits like promoting a sense of calm, reducing stress and anxiety, as well as supporting a healthy night's sleep. It can also be used to address digestive issues, improve mental clarity, and potentially reduce pain. Thanks, as always, for supporting our family and loving this simple, earthy life right along with us. With love and goat kisses,
