Farmhouse Fresh: Homemade Sourdough Tortillas You’ll Love

There’s nothing better than the smell of fresh, homemade tortillas sizzling on a hot skillet — especially when they’re made with your own sourdough starter.

We believe the best food comes from simple ingredients, a little patience, and a whole lot of love. That’s why we make our own tortillas and skip the store-bought ones loaded with preservatives, fillers, and ingredients we can’t even pronounce. If it’s going on our family’s table, we want it clean, wholesome, and made from scratch — just the way it should be.

We started making these tortillas as a fun way to use up extra sourdough starter on the farm — but now, they’re a staple in our kitchen. They’re soft, flexible, and have that subtle sourdough tang we love. Plus, they’re perfect for wrapping up some of our favorite farm-raised meals — like our house favorite: slow-cooked pulled pork from our own pigs, right here on the farm. Whether it’s for taco night, a quick lunch, or just a snack with a little butter and sea salt, these tortillas bring that rustic, homemade touch to every meal.

Ingredients:

3 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup olive oil
1 cup warm water
1/2 cup active sourdough starter (optional but adds great flavor!)

Instructions:

1️⃣ In a large bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
2️⃣ Add the olive oil and warm water, stirring until a soft dough forms.
3️⃣ If using sourdough starter, add it now and knead the dough until smooth.
4️⃣ Cover and let the dough rest for 20 minutes.
5️⃣ Divide the dough into small balls — about the size of a golf ball.
6️⃣ Roll each ball flat on a floured surface with a rolling pin.
7️⃣ Cook each tortilla on a hot, dry skillet for 1-2 minutes per side until lightly browned and puffed.
8️⃣ Enjoy warm! They’re perfect for tacos, wraps, or even just with a little homemade butter.

Why We Love Them:

These tortillas are soft, flavorful, and full of that farmhouse-made love. They’re the perfect way to use your sourdough starter — plus, no preservatives or weird ingredients.

Just simple, wholesome food right from your kitchen.

With love and goat kisses,
– The Hippie Farmer
